I think children are assessed sometimes because of their behavior.  I think when a child is assessed the school needs to have a meeting with the paretns.  Sometimes I feel children are labeled because of their distruptive behavior in school.  I think there should be meeting with the child plus the parents.  I also think the parents need to be more involved.
Most adolescent children in other parts of the world to do not benefit from schools.  Alot of adolescent children are working or the female children have been violated sexualy.  It is so sad that children in other parts of the world can not remain young.  They are forced to see a hard cruel world.  There are no one to protect them.

Consequences of Stress on Children's Development

My father was an alcoholic and was very verbally abusive.  When she drank he would loose his temper with us and hit us with a belt.  We would always have to walk on egg shells when he was drinking and stay in our bedrooms.  he was very cruel to my mom and there has been many times he was physical to her.  Towards the end of my fathers life I asked him why he did that to us.  Many of the events he could not recall.  He never thought he really hurt us and did not think he had a drinking problem.  He did apologize for what he did and said he tried to do the best for us.  My father never had a father and his mother was never around.  I honestly believe my father never knew how to be a parent because he did not have any good role models as parents.  When he became a grandpa, he finally understood how to love a child unconditional and how to communicate in a positive loving one.  My sons loved their grandpa and I finally was able to let the pain and anger go.  All my siblings are very close but we are very aware that our dad was an alcoholic and we have a higher risk at becoming one.  Some of my siblings have had to fight that demon.

In Cambodia the Organization that helps family in need against child abuse is called Phare Ponleu Selpax.  This organizations helps over 1500 children.  Here are some facts about the organization and who they help.  No matter where you live or your race, economic status child abuse has no has no discrimination!!!!

Child Development and Public Health

The topic I chose was immunization.  The reason why I chose this topic is because so many children die everyday because they do not have access to vaccinations.  UNICEF said "that there are more than 30 million children that are not immunized either because vaccines are unavailable, because health services are poorly provided or inaccessible, or because families are uniformed or misinformed about when and why to bring their children for immunization"  (UNICEF).  Less than $30. 00 a day it cost to immunize a child and prevent them from dying.  This make me so sad that so many children die because their country does not have the funds or medicine.  This a global issue.  All children, should be  immunized no matter where they live, their race or ethnicity.

Childbirth In Your Life and Around the World

My first son was born in a civilian hospital in Philadelphia.  He was induced at 8:00 am but was not born until 3:00 pm during General Hospital.  It was the best day of my life.  Sean-Michael was the first grandson.  My family came to the hospital the next day and my dad was so excited to hold him.  My second son was born in a military hospital in Jacksonville Florida.  He was born on his due date.  Chad my ex husband just came in from a 3 week med cruise.  i was in labor waiting for him to get off the John F Kennedy Air Craft Carrier.  Once Chad came out we than went to hospital but I was not dilated enough for them to keep me at the hospital.  So we walked around the hospital for hours and finally at 10 pm i gave birth to Austin-Chayse.  The Olympics were on and everyone was watching it.  My sons are my entire world.  I never realized how luck I was to be able to give birth to my sons in a hospital with doctors and medicine available in cased something happened.  Many countries do not have this luxury.  Over 300,000 woman died during pregnancy or childbirth, mostly in poor countries in 2008.  They are giving birth in their homes without proper medical care.  I think this is a serious problem and it needs to be addressed.

Examining Codes of Ethics

I-1.3 To recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities, and potential of each child.

The reason why i decided to pick this one is because my son was bullied in elementary school because he had glasses and was not athletic.  I had to call the school daily to make sure he was not bullied.  Children can be so mean.  But as educators we are the ones who need to make children fell special and unique and safe.  I make sure that all my staff do this to all the children in our care.

1-1.2 To develop relationships of mutual trust and create partnerships with the families we serve.

I do this on a daily basis.  My presence at the center everyday.  My open door policy to all my parents, children and safe.  I am always greeting my parents, talking to them about their day and their childs day.  Smiling when I see them.

1-3b.2 To assist the program in providing the highest quality service.

First it starts with the people I hire.  Hire the best no exceptions.  and than I mentor, consistenly have on going training.  I make sure my teachers have the tools to do their jobs and always let them know they are doing a great job.

One more great quote from President Bill Clinton:

"Strength and wisdom are not opposing values".
Another great quote from President Bill Clinton:

"By lifting the weakest, poorest among us, we lift the rest of us as well".
Here are some of my favorite quotes from President Bill Clinton:

"If you live long enough, you'll make mistakes.  But if you learn from them, you'll be a better person.  It's how you handle adversity, not how it affects you.  The  main thing is never quit, never quit"
Another great quote from Susan Bredekamp:

"We are decision makers.  As adults caring for children, it is our resonsibility to seek out and intentionally plan the best opportunities for children that support their over-all-well being and healthy development.  Developmentally appropriate pratice, commonly known as DAP, is a comprehensive educational perspective that supports optimal healthy development for every child.  Understanding DAP- its meaning and intentional practices-is essential in guiding the decisions we make for young children."
Some of my favorite quotes from Susan Bredekamp:

"Children benefit most from teachers who have the skilss, knowledge, and judgement to make good decisions and are given the opportunity to make them."

Personal Childhood Web

Personal Childhood Web-

There are many people that hhave very important to me during my childhood years.
My mom, Linda Kelly is a loving warm strong woman.  My mother is a very very strong woman.  She has always been there for me and my sisters and brothers.  She has always put us first and we always knew we were loved.
My dad, Stephen Kelly was a very strong, independent, stubborn loving dad.  The saying its my way or the hight way is defiantly a good way to describe my dad.  He loved us and never let anyone ever hurt us.  His family was his live.  That is the one thing is really instilled in me.  Family is always first.  I miss mt dad every day and wish there trully was a stariway to heaven.
My Nanny, Lillie Parisi is a strong, loving, funny, sweet Nanny.  She has always been there for all of us.  If my mom and dad could not afford to give us christmas gifts or birthday gifts, my nanny was always there to help.  I love her Nanny.
My God Mother-Aunt Millie is a strong, independent, vocal woman.  She taught me to be an indepedent woman.  My aunt was divorced at a young age and had to raise her sons by herself.  She did a great job and now I am doing the same thing.  She was always there for me and my family.
My Aunt-  Roseanne Grandi is a strong, loving sweet caring aunt.  She is my moms's sister.  My Aunt Roseanne was a very great role model.  She always put her children first and made sure all of us were loved.

I am from a large Italian irish family.  My family didnt believe in friends taking care of their chislren.  I guess that why I had a hard time trusting friends.  I only have a few clothes friends.  I am a very loving devoted mom.  My sons are my life and I know I got that from the strong independent women in my life.  I never had a grandpa, it has always been my dad.  When he died he took a part of me with him.  He was the only male role model.  He was my protector.

Children are the future

Everyday I go a job that I truly love.  I am a Preschool Director with 131 children that I have in my school.  The children are from 6 weeks to twelve years old.  My favorite part of my day is when I go into a classroom and see my children learning.  It is truly priceless.

Love what I do: love of children: love of children

Love what I do: love of children: love of children: love of children: love of children : My favorite book is The Magic of Children: A Celebration of Life, Love, & Happiness by Mark Freed,...
