I-1.3 To recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities, and potential of each child.
The reason why i decided to pick this one is because my son was bullied in elementary school because he had glasses and was not athletic. I had to call the school daily to make sure he was not bullied. Children can be so mean. But as educators we are the ones who need to make children fell special and unique and safe. I make sure that all my staff do this to all the children in our care.
1-1.2 To develop relationships of mutual trust and create partnerships with the families we serve.
I do this on a daily basis. My presence at the center everyday. My open door policy to all my parents, children and safe. I am always greeting my parents, talking to them about their day and their childs day. Smiling when I see them.
1-3b.2 To assist the program in providing the highest quality service.
First it starts with the people I hire. Hire the best no exceptions. and than I mentor, consistenly have on going training. I make sure my teachers have the tools to do their jobs and always let them know they are doing a great job.
Hi Carrie,
ReplyDeleteYou picked some great pieces from the ethics statements. While we did not choose any of the same ones, I feel like yours are very important to highlight. I'm sorry to hear about your son's experiences in school. It's so important for us to teach children to be respectful of everyone. It's very sad when those kinds of situations happen. Every child is unique and deserves to have others see his/her full potential. Developing relationships of mutual trust and create partnerships with families fits right in with the first statement. Working cooperatively with families can eliminate some of the situations like the one you mentioned about your son. Your third choice, providing the highest quality of service, is a goal that we should all to working towards each day. These are great reminders for all educators.
Every child is different and that is a fundamental fact that must be taken into consideration. What works for one child will not for every child.
