Perspectives on Diversity and Culture

My son said that the United States is a prime example of cultural and diversity.  If you walk on the streets you see so many different types of ethnicity's and cultures.  There is no other country that has so many different people who are from different cultures.  Diversity to him is a collection of things.

Natalie my sons girlfriend says she doesn't really know hoe to explain it but she lives in a strong Mexican cultural.  To her cultural and diversity is a way of life for her.  Her mother and father are first immigrants and they have allows lived in Texas but never felt like an outsider.

My finance Kendall said its your heritage and certain traditions your family does.  His cultural is not defined because his family is extremely blended.  They do not practice and specific cultural.  He thinks diversity is a bunch of different cultures living in one community.  He also stated that he believed that New York City is the best example of diversity and cultural.

As I reflect their definitions I can see how everyone views diversity and cultural in how it has represented them and how they lived with it.  It starts when a person is young and how they are raised and their surroundings.  I agree with Kendall about his definitions but was a little shocked with Natalie especially since her family are first immigrants and cultural is very important to her family.  I can see she is "Americanized" per her grandparents.  I think my son and Austin knew more about cultural and diversity than I thought they would.  Very impressed with them.

  1. Hi Carrie! I feel that your son look at race and ethnicity when he looks as culture and is able to coin the term diversity in his own way by explaining the different races of people and different ethnicities. As far as your son's girlfriend, that's not surprising that she feels her family has a strong culture because I have heard as well and have seen on first hand how Mexicans feel about their race, traditions, beliefs, and views of what family is. You mentioned your fiance' said that he feels New York City is the best example of diversity. I wonder why he feels this way. Can you please give me some type of clue of what he meant being that I have never been there. Great Post

  2. Hi Carrie
I agree with your finance New York City is a great example of many cultures and diversity. It is amazing that everyone brought up the same topics when it comes to culture and diversity. When people take the time to learn about others they gain knowledge of the surrounding cultures. Very informative post.

  4. Hey Carrie,

Great Post!!! I agree with your son, "The United States is a prime example of cultural and diversity". The U.S. is just one big melting pot of different cultures, races, beliefs, and religions. When I was in in high school we had a day called "All American Day", were we celebrated all nationalities and experienced different cultures.
