My Personal Research Journey

As i began my stimulation process I discovered the topic I chosen was to vague.  I wanted to understand why we have chosen to use the child centered learning approach in early childhood education but once the children go to public school the approach is teacher directed learning. I would think this would be very confusing for children and I wanted to know if the children were behind academically because of the child centered learning approach.  As I began to research my topic I discovered that there were so many resources out there and I really had to make sure I was looking at credible websites.  Honestly I am still having a difficult time narrowing my topic.  So I am hoping that some of colleagues could assist me in this.  The topic I will be researching on is the Child Centered Learning Approach developmentally appropriate for children in Early Childhood Education.  Do you think this is still to vague?  I even looked up High scope approach.  The research chart is very helpful.  And this chart will defiantly help me stay organized.
My real passion is learning more about non profit organizations like Children's Defense Fund or UNICEF.  The other topic I was actually looking into was Children that live in poverty and how it effects them socially, emotionally and academically.  What topic do you like the best and why?

  1. Carrie,
Thank you for sharing your process. The child-centered learning approach is a wonderful and very broad topic. Since you are interested in understanding children in poverty, perhaps you could combine the two and look at how the child-centered approach can positively impact children of poverty...maybe in other parts of the world. Keep trying!

  2. Hi Carrie,
My research topic was too vague as well, and I'm struggling a bit to narrow it down to something that I can do "mock research" on. It looks like we are in the same boat. I am not very familiar with High Scope, but look forward to learning more about it from your research. Good luck!

  3. My topic is vague as well, and I am having some problems narrowing done my subtopics. I chose to do the responsive classroom approach. I could see how the children would initially be somewhat confused going from a student-center approach to a teacher-directed approach. I believe that our topics are similar and I looking forward to exchanging information with you.
