Getting to know your international contracts-part 1

Donna,

I think UNICEF is a very important organization that helps children all over the world.  I currently live in Texas, United States.  Do you feel that UNICEF has improved with the child hood poverty in the recent years?  Do you think there are more we can do to help?   In the United States in the past 50 years we have reduce childhood poverty but we still have a lot more to do.  We have alot of programs in place but we need make sure that we always have the funds to keep them in place.  Is there a certain demographic area in Australia that is worst off?  Does the goverment help?  I am very impressed with your organization.  I look forward to knowing more about your organization and how you improve the lives of children in Australia and all over the world.

Yours Truly,

Carrie Richardson

Sharing Web Resource Part 2

The Children's Defense Fund  (Leave No Child Behind) is the organization that really caught my eye.  This organization mission statement is: "to ensure every child a Health start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start anda Moral Start in Life and a Successful passage in adullthood, with the help of caring families and communities."

The Children Defense Fund provides a strong, and indepedent voice for all children of America who cannot vote, lobby or speak themselves.  This organization pats close attention to the needs of poor and minority children and children with disabilities.

The may newsletter for the Children Defense Fund discussed a recent survey of states confirmed the most states in the country that do not have statues requiring school districts to provide publicly funded full-day K on a year to year basis.    This really caught my attention because I believe that full day Kindergarten is very important and every child should be about to go to school.

I really enjoyed researching all the amazing different resources and organizations there are for Early Childhood Field.

Sharing Web Resources Part 1

I am communicating with UNICEF Australia.  This is my first response from Donna Dormitorio.

Dear Carrie,

UNICEF Australia is a non-government organisation established more than 30 years ago. We are one of 36 National Committees around the world who play a vital role in generating fundraising revenue, public support and awareness for the organisation's work. Serving as the public face and dedicated voice of UNICEF, the National Committees work tirelessly to raise funds from the private sector, promote children’s rights and secure worldwide visibility for children threatened by poverty, disasters, armed conflict, abuse and exploitation. UNICEF is funded exclusively by voluntary contributions, and the National Committees collectively raise around one-third of UNICEF's annual income. This comes through contributions from corporations, civil society organizations and more than 6 million individual donors worldwide. They also rally many different partners – including the media, national and local government officials, NGOs, specialists such as doctors and lawyers, corporations, schools, young people and the general public – on issues related to children’s rights. UNICEF Australia is a company limited by guarantee. For more detail on what we do, please click here.

If you would like to volunteer, UNICEF Australia has only one office based in the Sydney metro area. This office primarily works with volunteers who assist with office administration. As our office is based in Sydney, we do not have many volunteering opportunities in other states or territories. However, we occasionally require the assistance of volunteers for UNICEF events. If you are interested in volunteering for UNICEF Australia, please fill out the form on our Volunteer page. We will keep record of your application and contact you if any volunteer work becomes available. Please note, our office is only open on Monday-Friday during office hours.

To apply for a job, we advertise staff vacancies here as they arise and we are only able to accept applications in response to advertised vacancies. We also advertise vacancies on seek.com.au,ethicaljobs.com.au or in newspapers. We do not accept speculative applications.

For more information please visit our website: www.unicef.org.au

Kind Regards,
